ARLINGTON, Texas — Texas Health Resources is welcoming 60 physicians into its graduate medical education (GME) residency programs.

Residency is a significant step in each physician’s career journey, and GME programs are part of Texas Health’s continued investment in preparing future physicians.

The incoming residents learned they secured positions with Texas Health on Match Day 2026, an annual event administered by the National Resident Matching Program (NRMP).

“Match Day marks a milestone in the professional development of every physician,” said Shelly, Monks, FACHE, chief academic officer for Texas Health. “After completing four years of medical school, these physicians are ready to begin residency in their chosen specialty. Texas Health is proud to welcome them and provide the training and support to advance to the next phase of their career journey.”

Residency programs give physicians hands-on clinical experience while training in a chosen specialty. During this period, they provide patient care under the supervision and mentorship of experienced practicing physicians.

“Communities across the nation continue to prepare for projected physician shortages,” said Andrew Masica, M.D., MSCI, chief medical officer for Texas Health. “Our GME programs are built to develop exceptional, compassionate physicians who will strengthen the health of this region and provide high-quality care for generations to come.”

The American Medical Association states that the shortage of primary care physicians has become a growing concern nationwide, posing a significant barrier to timely and accessible healthcare. The challenge extends beyond primary care and includes specialties such as cardiology, dermatology and psychiatry.

Texas Health is committed to developing well‑trained physicians to deliver high-quality care to the patients they serve. The system’s first GME program launched at Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital Dallas in the 1970s. In 2021, Texas Health expanded its GME portfolio with a general surgery residency at Texas Health Harris Hospital Fort Worth. Since then, it launched internal medicine residency programs at Texas Health Fort Worth and Texas Health Harris Methodist Hospital Hurst‑Euless‑Bedford, with rotations at Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital Denton. Most recently, the system added an internal medicine residency program at Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital Plano.
