One of the best ways to determine if your body is losing bone mass is with a bone mineral density test. If your bone density is found to be low, you and your doctor can work together on a treatment plan to help prevent fractures before they occur. Simple bone density scans using portable machines may check the density of your wrist or heel. However, keep in mind that hip and spine scans, like DEXA (dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry), are more reliable.
The following Texas Health hospitals offer some type of bone mineral density test:
Most doctors on the medical staff practice independently and are not employees or agents of the hospitals.
