Zulema Miranda was making a sandwich when she knew something was wrong. She picked up a butter knife with her left hand, but when she tried to switch the knife to the other hand – something she has done hundreds of times in her life -- she couldn’t do it. Zulema’s hand simply would not hold the knife.
She came to Texas Health Harris Methodist Hospital Fort Worth quickly for help. The dedicated stroke team of specialized nurses and physicians on the medical staff not only provided immediate treatment for Zulema, but also recommended therapy that helped her through recovery. From regaining her ability to speak to using both sides of her body, Zulema found help and hope at Texas Health Fort Worth.
Today, this dynamic, spirited teacher is back in the classroom, using all of her words to help students learn to speak in two languages.
