Required Rotations

  • Orientation (4 weeks*)
  • Emergency Medicine I (4-6 weeks)
  • Emergency Medicine II (4-6 weeks)
  • Emergency Medicine III, Precepting (4-6 weeks)
  • Emergency Medicine IV, Independent Practice (4-6 weeks)
  • Critical Care (4 weeks; selective ICU^)
  • Overnight Emergency Medicine I (4-6 weeks)
  • Pediatric Emergency Medicine (4 weeks; off-site at Cook Children’s Medical Center)
  • Pre-Hospital Care (2 weeks; EMS)
  • Toxicology (4 weeks; off-site at North Texas Poison Control Center)

*Orientation shortened to 2 weeks for internal PGY2 EM residents having completed their PGY1 residency at THFW.

Elective Rotations:

  • Additional Critical Care (4 weeks; different ICU than required rotation)
    • Medical ICU^
    • Trauma-Surgical ICU^
    • Cardiovascular ICU^
  • Neuro-surgical ICU (2 weeks)
  • Overnight Emergency Medicine II (4-6 weeks)

 

±Other elective learning experiences may be developed based on resident interest and preceptor availability.

  • Research
  • Teaching Certificate Program (optional; if not completed during PGY1)

*Staffing Requirement: Decentralized, 10-hour shifts in the ED; 16 weekends (every third weekend) plus 1 major holiday (2 day commitment)
