Wellness for Life is a non-profit prevention and early detection program available to the community through the mobile health-screening unit. The goals of Wellness for Life are to increase awareness of cancer, chronic disease management, educate the benefits of early detection, and offer accessibility for many types of screenings and early detection services.
Services include:
Women’s Health:
- 3D Screening mammography/diagnostic follow-up
- Radiologists at Texas Health Fort Worth Kupferle Breast Center review screenings. Mammogram results are mailed to the client within 7-10 business days. Clients with abnormal results are contacted via phone within two business days and navigated to the closest breast center for follow-up.
- Well Woman Comprehensive Cervical Cancer Screening:
- Complete Physical Exam including Biometrics (height, weight, blood pressure, girth)
- Cardiovascular Risk Assessment Screening: Glucose, Lipid Panel and Thyroid Stimulating Hormone blood testing.
- Pap Test/HPV testing
- The Pap test and HPV screening is processed and reviewed by Texas Health Fort Worth pathology. Pap test results and recommendations for follow-up are mailed to the client within 21 business days.
- Colon Cancer: Fecal Occult Blood (FIT) Take Home Kit
Men’s Health:
- Colon Cancer: Fecal Occult Blood (FIT) Take Home Kit
- Prostate Cancer Screening: Prostate Specific Antigen (PSA) Blood Test, medical history, symptom evaluation and prostate exam (if necessary).
- Cardiovascular Risk Assessment Screening:
- Biometrics (height, weight, blood pressure, girth)
- Assessment for Metabolic Syndrome
- Body Mass Index (BMI)
- Blood test for the evaluation of fasting lipids (cholesterol), diabetes, and thyroid activity (fasting preferred)
- Screening is processed and reviewed by Texas Health Fort Worth Laboratory. Results and recommendations for follow-up are mailed to the client within 21 business days.
An examination time of 15 -20 minutes for mammography screenings 30-45 minutes for comprehensive wellness exams along with the convenient on-site location of the mobile unit are some of the aspects that make these services unique and highly desirable.
The Wellness for Life mobile health units are staffed by Family Nurse Practitioners, Nationally Certified Medical Assistant and Professional Mammography Technologists. Medical direction for the program is provided by a board-certified physician member of the Texas Health Harris Methodist Hospital Fort Worth medical staff.
