About the Qualisys Motion Capture System

The Qualisys Motion Capture system is a tool for motion analysis used in research, clinical applications, and sports performance enhancement. This advanced 3D system allows for the detailed study of movement at high speeds, uncovering subtle deficiencies often invisible to the human eye. By analyzing an athlete’s movement, it helps identify weaknesses that may lead to musculoskeletal issues and decreased performance. It also provides performance metrics and assesses injury risk.

Lower Extremity Assessment and Performance (LEAP)

During the LEAP* test, athletes perform sport-specific movements such as squatting and jumping with retroreflective markers attached to their bodies. These markers enable cameras to create a 3D model of the athlete’s movements. Our team of biomechanists and sports physical therapists analyze the data to assess the risk of future injuries, identify areas of poor performance, and evaluate readiness to return to sport after an injury. Whether you are recovering from an injury or aiming to enhance your performance, our sports medicine facilities and specialized staff are here to help
*2D testing available at the Fort Worth location

Pitching Assessment

The pitching assessment* analyzes the complex overhead motion of pitching. Athletes perform pitches while wearing retroreflective markers, recorded by a 3D camera system. The data is reviewed by our biomechanists and sports physical therapists to pinpoint areas of injury risk or performance inefficiencies. This assessment is widely used by professional athletes for injury rehabilitation, performance enhancement, and risk evaluation. Athletes receive an online report with a video of their pitching motion and key performance metrics, providing valuable insights and feedback to improve mechanics and reduce injury risk. The tests can be customized to meet the specific needs of each athlete.
*Available at the Allen and Fort Worth locations.

The motion capture lab at Texas Health Sports Medicine offers advanced motion analysis for athletes at all levels. Whether you are recovering from an injury or aiming to enhance your performance, our sports medicine facilities and specialized staff are here to help.
