Melissa Winans, D.N.P., M.B.A.-HCM, R.N., NEA-BC, FACHE, serves as the chief nursing officer of Texas Health Dallas, assuming the role in June 2024.

In her position at Texas Health Dallas, Winans works closely with the hospital president, Chris York, along with Sarah Way, M.D., chief quality and medical officer, and Tiffany Northern, chief operating officer, to develop and oversee the implementation of policies, procedures and practices to support safe, high-quality patient care. She is also responsible for the management of nursing practice, nursing education, professional development, nursing research and nursing administration.

Winans joined Texas Health Resources as director of women and infant services at Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital Denton in 2012, and then served as director of women and infant and critical care services. In 2014, she was promoted to chief nursing officer.

Winans led Texas Health Denton in achieving Magnet® designation during the COVID-19 pandemic and helped oversee the opening of the hospital’s new women’s center. She built a strong nursing team and instituted improvements in patient experience, employee engagement and quality of care outcomes. She is passionate about decreasing workplace violence and creating a safer workplace to give and receive care.

She earned a Bachelor of Science degree in nursing from Minnesota State University Moorhead, a Master of Science in nursing from Excelsior University in Albany, New York, and a Master of Business Administration in healthcare management from Herzing University in Milwaukee. She also earned a Doctor of Nursing Practice from Texas Christian University.

When not at work, Winans enjoys quilting, reading and gardening. She and her husband have three adult children, two grandchildren, a toy poodle and two white Labrador retrievers.
