The Vascular and Interventional Radiology Center (VIRC) at Texas Health Harris Methodist Hospital Fort Worth offers physicians on the medical staff, as well as the community and the residents of Tarrant County and surrounding areas, a comprehensive program to treat vascular and non-vascular conditions with non-surgical and surgical techniques.

A few facts about the VIRC:

  • Interventional radiology offers patients a host of new treatment options.
  • Most procedures are performed on an outpatient basis or require only a short hospital stay.
  • General anesthesia is usually not required.
  • Risk, pain and recovery time are often significantly reduced because most procedures are minimally invasive.
  • The procedures are sometimes less expensive than invasive surgery or other alternatives.
  • Recent literature and research published in The Lancet medical journal reports coiling is now the treatment of choice for cerebral aneurysms.

The technology in the Vascular and Interventional Radiology Center is a capstone to the hospital's Neuroscience Center of Excellence and provides an all-inclusive neurological service to the community.

Texas Health Fort Worth is the only hospital in Tarrant County with the capability to non-surgically treat cerebral aneurysms, the deadliest cause of stroke.

These conditions and diseases are treated in the neurointerventional suite:

  • Strokes
  • Aneurysms
  • Intracranial atherosclerosis
  • Extracranial (brachiocephalic) atherosclerosis
  • Vertebral body (spinal) compression fractures
  • Vasospasm after aneurysm bleed
  • Severe nosebleeds
  • Arteriovenous malformations
  • Dural arteriovenous fistulae
  • Meningiomas
  • Paragangliomas
  • Juvenile nasopharyngeal angiofibromas
  • Vertebral body tumors
  • Traumatic vascular lesions
  • Head and neck tumors
  • Spinal vascular malformations
