Texas Health's rewards packages are tangible evidence of the strong value we place on our workforce and our commitment to treating our people with fairness. Our compensation policies embody the belief that everyone deserves respect and should share in our company's success. Offering competitive salaries and benefits is essential to attracting and retaining top talent, so we pay wages at or above the median rate in North Texas. Our benefits package averages more than 30% of employees' salaries and includes:

  • Medical insurance: We pay more than 80% of medical insurance costs and tier employee premiums based on their salaries. Employee-only coverage is available for less than $5 per month for those who earn under $25,000. We also subsidize health plan costs for older workers moving from full- to part-time status. We offer health plans from various insurers, including our own Texas Health Aetna plan. Our high-deductible options include a $500 Health Savings Account ($1,000 for families). With most medical plan options, employees can consult virtually with physicians 24 hours a day at no extra cost.
  • Family-friendly benefits and services: We offer adoption assistance, flexible working hours, onsite childcare, generous paid time off, backup child- and adult-care services and more.
  • Retirement: We increase 401(k) retirement plan contributions based on length of employment. After 10 years of service, we contribute up to $1.25 for every $1 that employees contribute (up to 6% of their salaries).
  • Education: We offer a $50/month student-loan repayment program, scholarships and reimburse tuition.

To validate pay equity, we evaluate our pay practices and programs yearly. We also conduct annual Equal Employment Opportunity Commission mock audits internally to identify and investigate concerns.

Taking Care of Our People

Like most people, the pandemic has impacted Texas Health's employees physically, emotionally and financially. To help our teams cope with hardship, we:

  • Established a Texas Health Employee Relief Fund to provide grants for basic or critical needs — such as housing, utilities or medical expenses — to employees who missed work for more than two weeks after testing positive for COVID-19. Generous employees also donated $335,636 in paid time off to colleagues who needed support.
  • Launched a COVID-19 Response Fund through the Texas Health Resources Foundation to reimburse front-line caregivers for childcare expenses, hotel stays to protect family or meals. Generous donors gave more than $1.1 million to pay for PPE and daycare as well as $200,000 worth of in-kind meal donations.
  • Granted paid time off through our Helping Hands program to employees who had an unexpected medical reason to be off work and didn't have enough PTO accrued. Generous employees also donated $326,506, up 235% from 2019, to help their colleagues. Since March, we've paid out up to 80 hours of PTO for 4,867 employees.
  • Expanded daycare benefits to include discounted daycare and fully paid backup care for employees who needed childcare or eldercare when their usual care plans fell through.
  • Expanded our employee discount program to include meal delivery services, grocery delivery services, children's entertainment and educational resources.
  • Provided free access to a virtual personal assistant app, enabling employees to quickly find online resources, home repair services, shopping assistance, pet care, order gifts and more – freeing up time when they are not at work.

Backup Care Services Help Employees Be Present

Like many parents, Angela Jenkins wasn't quite sure how she would balance caring for her child with her job duties as the COVID-19 pandemic created vast changes to daily life. Schools delayed reopening or shifted to remote learning and many daycare centers closed.

That left Angela to figure out how she would care for her seven-year-old daughter, Anaysha. Angela's husband works nights and Angela works during the day as a phone nurse for Texas Health Family Care in Burleson. The pair usually trades off caring for their child, coordinating their schedules to care for their daughter.

To help find options for care team members who care for a child or adult, Texas Health offers Backup Care Services when usual care plans have fallen through or care is needed at a moment's notice.

"Employees can be physically present and have peace of mind knowing that if their child or an adult in their care is sick or unable to attend regular childcare, Backup Care Services can provide the care needed in a safe and convenient manner," said Jenny Doss, director of Total Health.

The service is free to employees, thanks to the generosity of donors to the COVID-19 Response Fund.
