Patients turned down for open heart surgery now have options.

Texas Health has structural heart programs across North Texas where physicians on the medical staff can diagnose and treat patients who have defects in the heart’s valves, wall or chambers. Many structural heart conditions are present at birth, but some can form later in life. Our structural heart programs consist of multidisciplinary teams of specialists on the medical staff, including interventional cardiology, cardiothoracic surgery, cardiac anesthesia, electrophysiologists, advanced practice providers and other allied health professionals. At Texas Health, we use advanced technology to provide patients with innovative structural heart treatment options – from consultation through follow-up care.

Advanced Structural Heart Care
Texas Health offers minimally invasive, innovative options for patients with structural heart defects.
  • Transcatheter Aortic Valve Replacement (TAVR)

TAVR is an advanced, minimally invasive surgical procedure for patients with aortic stenosis, which is a narrowing of the aortic valve opening. TAVR is less invasive than a traditional open-heart aortic valve replacement surgery.

  • Robotic-Assisted Mitral Valve Repair

An innovative, minimally invasive treatment option for mitral valve disorders that goes far beyond traditional open-heart surgery. Robotic-assisted and catheter-based techniques promote quicker healing and a return to an active lifestyle.

  • Transcatheter Mitral Valve Repair (MitraClip®)

Mitral Valve Repair (TMVr) with MitraClip therapy is a less invasive treatment option for patients with mitral regurgitation (MR). MR is caused by a leaky heart valve and can cause heart failure. Some MR patients who have been turned down for open-heart surgery in the past may be candidates for MitraClip, which is a small device that is attached to the mitral valve and helps restore normal blood flow through the heart.

  • Watchman™ Left Atrial Appendage Closure Implant

Watchman is a permanent implant that closes off a part of the heart where blood clots commonly form. The Watchman implant is about the size of a quarter, and it doesn’t require open-heart surgery.
