Taking Care of Baby Teeth

Baby teeth are the basis for healthy permanent teeth, so taking good care of them is important. Start brushing your baby’s teeth twice a day once the first tooth emerges, usually between 4 and 8 months of age.

Put a tiny smear of fluoride toothpaste on a soft, child-sized toothbrush and gently brush the teeth and tongue. Your baby might fuss and squirm as you do this; that’s OK.

Remember, do not put your baby to bed with a bottle of breast milk, milk or formula, since this can lead to tooth decay.
