Dancing to the Music

Q: “I am noticing that my son seems to move back and forth when he hears music. Is this normal? Someone said that he might have a problem if he moves like this. I think he just likes to hear the music, but I want to be sure.”

A: You are probably observing your son’s interest in music. Around this age, children are more aware of the sounds they hear, and music is often one of them. It’s not unusual for children to sway to the music, or “dance.” You can make it an interactive game by joining in and having some fun together. Try a variety of music and see if your son will change his movement to the different sounds!
