The Gifted Toddler

Your toddler knows the alphabet, says lots of words and easily follows instructions. Is he gifted? It’s hard to know; development varies widely in early childhood.

Some kids quickly master gross motor skills, but don’t have a big vocabulary yet. Others are verbal, but still physically awkward.

Your child may be an advanced learner, but he or she may still need to develop the social and emotional skills vital to learning—patience, attention and self-control. These are best learned through play.
