Too Young for Chores

Q: “All the children in my family did chores, but my husband says our 2-year-old is too young for chores. I say, ‘The earlier, the better!’ Who is right?”

A: The answer depends on the chore. Two-year-olds love to help out if they are given an age-appropriate job. A toddler can put one spoon at each place on the table or bring the dog’s leash to you when it is time for a walk.

Toddlers can’t be expected to remember to do their jobs without being told (although they may), or to do a perfect job every time.
